About us
Our triathlon club was born from something truly special—the bonds forged at one of the world's most challenging and scenic adventure triathlons, the Survival of the Shawangunks (SOS). What started as individual journeys to conquer this legendary eight-stage race has evolved into lasting friendships and a thriving community of athletes who share a passion for the sport and each other.

Our origin story
The SOS holds a unique place in triathlon history. Created in 1983 by Don Davis, a veteran triathlete and founder of the New York Triathlete Association, this extraordinary event began as a training course that Don and his friends used to prepare for Ironman competitions. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of New Paltz, New York, the SOS takes place every September along the scenic highways circling the northern ridge of the Shawangunk Mountain Range and through Minnewaska State Park.
This isn't just any triathlon—it's consistently ranked among the best adventure triathlons in the world. The course challenges fewer than 200 athletes each year with a unique combination of running and swimming through America's most beautiful cross-country trails and pristine, spring-fed lakes. The event has become so coveted that it sells out in minutes, but for those fortunate enough to participate, it's a transformative experience.
Building community
Through shared challenge
Our club members first met as competitors on those demanding trails and in those crystal-clear mountain lakes. The shared experience of pushing through the SOS's eight stages created bonds that extended far beyond race day. What began as post-race conversations evolved into regular training sessions, group workouts, and eventually, organizing our own events together.

We discovered that the friendships forged through the challenge and beauty of the SOS were too valuable to limit to just one weekend a year. The camaraderie, mutual support, and shared passion for triathlon that brought us together became the foundation for something bigger—a welcoming community where athletes of all levels could grow and thrive.
