All gear left behind in your transition area bag will be transported along with your bike. We will also have vans and/or buses going to and from Mohonk to the Fairgrounds. This means you may leave your car at the Ulster County Fairgrounds.

  2. No drafting of another bike or vehicle is allowed. A space of at least 3 bike lengths is required except when passing within 15 seconds. If a draft marshall points to you, you must stop and touch both feet to the road as your penalty before resuming your race.

  3. No pacing competitors. Persons may not ride alongside, run with, or swim with a participant during the race.

  4. All roads are open to traffic. Natural hazards may be present. Ride defensively! Racers must follow instructions of the race officials and public authorities.

  5. The bike finish is at the Lower Awosting parking lot entrance on Route 44/55. Please find your numbered bike rack/transition area.

  6. You may not ride your bike in the transition area. Roll your bike to the transition area where you will find numbered racks and your transition bags. Make sure to place all items/gear you will no longer need back in the bag, which will be transported along with your bike to a holding area at the Ulster County Fairgrounds. Remember, from this point on, you need to carry anything you take with you with you to the finish.

  7. Competitors must swim with their caps on. Raise your hand if assistance is needed.

  8. Although the lakes are clear the water may contain some contaminants.

  9. Lake temps can vary from the lower 60s to lower 70s. Though it has yet to happen, wetsuits will be required if a lake temp is below 58F… be prepared in case. Lake temperatures will be announced and posted on our Facebook page the week leading up to the race.

  10. Flotation devices can only be used for the purpose of transporting your shoes. No artificial propulsion devices (fins, paddles) permitted.

  11. Competitors must carry all their own equipment. Once you leave the bike you must finish the race with the equipment you started the first run with. If you use a wetsuit you must wear/carry it until the survivor line. You may not leave anything on any trail or in any lake.

  12. Race Director decisions are final.

Cut Off Policy

We have three cutoff locations at SOS:

  1. Bike Finish: If you haven't reached the bike transition in under 2:15, you may be pulled from the race. We may make an exception for bike mechanical issues that only set you back a few minutes. This is considered a “soft cut off.”

  2. Lake Minnewaska: If you haven't crossed the timing mat at the exit of Lake Minnewaska (second swim) in under 5:30 from race start, you will be pulled from the race. This is a hard cutoff

  3. Trapps Bridge: If you don't cross Trapps Bridge in 6:15 or less, you will be pulled from the race.

If you are pulled from the course:

  • Your emergency contact will be notified.

  • You'll be transported safely back to the fairgrounds.

  • Your SkyTop gear back will be brought down to you.
