COURSE OVERVIEW

STAGE 1: BIKE 20 KILOMETERS

  • Start at the entrance to the Santa Barbara Resort

  • This looping out & back will take you through Tafelberg (Table Mountain) nature preserve and the active Limestone mine established in 1874

  • Wind into transition back at Santa Barbara resort beach

STAGE 2: SWIM 600 METERS

  • Swim a loop around the INNER WATER aquarium-like Santa Barbara beach

  • Then across the channel to a rocky climb out of the water

  • Head onto the barren Caracas Baai Island

STAGE 3: RUN 5 KILOMETERS

  • This first hilly run takes athletes through the natural wonders of Caracas Baai Island

  • Continue through the natural mondi-like wilderness of the island

  • Passing by various colonial era ruins, and the historic “Seamans Quarantine” Hospital buildings.

STAGE 4: SWIM 1.4 KILOMETERS

  • Start the first official open water swim, via Directors Bay, passing almost directly over the world famous “Tug Boat” dive site

  • Make your way past Fort Beekenburg, built on the bluff of the peninsula around 1703

  • Continue past Baya Beach ending at the small strip of land connecting Jan Thiel to Caracas Baai Island

STAGE 5: RUN 6 KILOMETERS

  • Start the second long run up into Jan Thiel

  • Then melt down in and through the Historic Colonial-era “Saliñas” (Salt Pans) mines

  • Next turn due South and heading back to the coast ending this arduous trek at the beach area at the Lions Dive resort

STAGE 6: SWIM 1.2 KILOMETERS

  • Swim another large loop swim in and around the Lions Dive Beach resort and Seaquarium lagoon

  • Finish strong into the picturesque resort
