Back of the Pack

First of all I don’t know which category this falls in, but I’m now starting the “From the Back of the Pack” Blog category.
This will include all pertinent info for the Survival of the Shawangunks race, but slanted to those participants, who get to the bike transitions after most of the bikes are already there, that get to the aid stations after there are more than a few cups and wrappers on the ground, that sometimes look around at the scenery and forget they’re racing, that have long conversations while biking or running and even sometimes swimming in the lakes sometimes when other people are around too.
Check out the Battle of Waterloo at www.estevents.com . It’s a Survival Series race to be held for the first time on August 16th in Waterloo, Michigan. It’s a multi-stage race like the SOS.
Also the Second Annual Kid’s SOS is at SUNY New Paltz on August 2nd. There’s a link on this website!
There will soon be a podcast on zentriathlon.com of an interview with my Coach, Don Davis.
We’re still working on getting all important info on this website, so if you have important info let me know.
Oh yeah, I just thought of some important info. It fits in with the “Back of the Pack” theme. There’s one record that’s never discussed. Who has the most overall time on the SOS course? I may be biased, but it seems to me it’s the most important record. We are working on compiling a searchable archive of results.
After all this rain, I’m just going downstairs to the basement to try my new tri-suit.

Well, I think that this “Most Time on the Course” is a valid category … & one that Jim Bacon might be in contention for if his flat-tire-strategy continues.

Also, how about a recognition Survivors Who Have Been Bitten By A Dog [or other wildlife, also] … sound like something you might consider??

Hey, by the way … where are you???

Well Dan - This Blogger is a full-fledged member of the Sandwich Generation. Between my 88 year old Mother, who I’m sure I could still beat in the S.O.S., even with her Bionic knees, and my 8 year old son, who I had to nurse back to health after a bout with “the flu”, I’ve been rather busy!
Jim’s Flat-Tire strategy is enticing, but I’ll stick to my animal bite and/or debilitating illness stategy. It has served me well.
Dr. Mike left a comment on the “sneaker in pants’ category that you may add to your scientific observations and findings for S.O.S. swimming.
I purchased a fancy light wetsuit, not to go faster, but to conserve energy. I’ve tried in out and it seems great, but I’ve haven’t biked in it yet.
I don’t know how Dave Beaudry’s 60th birthday workout was, but I’m sorry I missed it. I’m going to make sure I don’t miss his 70th though. I really was waiting to see if there’s a spray for bears before I did another workout at Dave’s Bear Haven Chalet.
I’m having an issue trying to get out of my driveway in Upper Jay, NY. My house is on the 20th and 76th mile of the 56 mile bike loop. There are too many Tri-Life bikers on the course, day and night. It’s almost impossible to get out of the driveway. Somebody tell Ross and Scott to lighten up on the training a bit!
Hope to be out and about next week!

This has nothing to do with anything on the blog, but as a first timer, my support crew (mom and dad) could use some guidance on what their day will look like. Anyone have advice for them?
